An urban jungle surrounded by actual rainforests, Kuala Lumpur is home to incredibly diverse scenery. “When I think of Kuala Lumpur, the unique blend of cultures and lifestyles is what comes to mind,” says Patrick Teow, a travel photographer and influencer based in the Malaysian capital. ” We may not boast the latest cutting-edge technology or the most impressive architecture, but this interplay of colors and traditions — in a tightly-knitted urban setting — is what makes the city feel like home to me.”
Inspired by the dynamic momentum of the destination and its many hidden facets, Uber and Canon have teamed up to spotlight a handful of its unusual locations that not even many locals have seen. After collecting a year’s worth of data and scouting locations all over the city, Uber has identified three photogenic locations with the lowest drop-off requests on the app.
Three Kuala Lumpur-based Instagrammers have been tapped to explore these forgotten places. Off the beaten path they may be, they are by no means unremarkable, as proven by the gorgeous snapshots taken by these photographers with Canon’s EOS M mirrorless camera series. These snapshots are shared on Uber and Canon’s Instagram feeds under the hashtags #CanonxUber, #whereto and #hiddencities, imploring followers to seek similar moments of discovery and tap into uncharted areas of their own cities.
Ahead, unlock the enriching stories behind these under-appreciated locations to see Kuala Lumpur like you never have before.
